About Us
Players, Directors and History
The Petoskey Duplicate Bridge Center is a truly unique organization. Our mission is to use bridge as an educational tool for youth and adults. By teaching bridge, through formal instruction and providing opportunities to play, we teach discipline; motivate academic, professional and other achievement; foster positive social skills; and empower both youth and adults to succeed.
Three things make it special -- the players, the game directors and the officers who make up its board and provide its direction. As a not-for-profit organization, we depend on the player volunteers.
We are one of the largest clubs in Michigan with more than 2000 tables annually. (The larger clubs in District 12, which encompasses all of Michigan and parts of northern Ohio, are located in metropolitan areas with much larger populations -- Southfield, Grand Rapids and Lansing.) We are fully sanctioned by the ACBL and are a member of its Unit 195 (Western Michigan).
ROSTER -- Nearly 500 players are on our roster with contact information. You can access it here.
GAME DIRECTORS -- ACBL requires that you have a certified director for each game you conduct. We have multiple certified directors. Read about them here.
HISTORY -- The first game in our present building was played on Sept. 30, 2009. But our origins go back to well before that. Click here to read a brief history of bridge in the Tip of the Mitt.
BUILDING -- Our building was designed as a bridge club from the very beginning. Thanks to the vision and generosity of Shirley and Jean Carpenter and nearly 100 contributing members, we are a bright, comfortable, well-equipped facility.
CLUB OFFICERS -- The club is run by a non-profit corporation with a board of directors who are elected at the annual meeting in July. Click here for a full list of officers and the board of directors.
Our clubhouse (above), which opened in 2009, was designed to be compatible with the surrounding residential areas.
Our main playing area (below), the gathering room, comfortably holds 24 tables and has easy access to a kitchen area and the game director's office.
Our classroom (pictured above) accommodates an additional 4 tables as well as our library.
A spacious entry and hallway (pictured below)
welcomes all players and provides access to the entire space, including the women's and men's restrooms.
